Since 2009, CAF's World Giving Index has provided an annual snapshot of generosity across the world.
We know through experience that the more we understand about giving and generosity, the more we can encourage, support and celebrate it. As we start CAF's second century, we have evolved the World Giving Index into the more insightful World Giving Report.
Having evolved from the World Giving Index, 2026 marks the second publication of CAF's World Giving Report.
With more than 100 years of experience, we know that the more we understand about giving and generosity, the more we can encourage, support and celebrate it. The World Giving Report continues to expand, with more partners than ever.
The World Giving Report seeks to explore two aspects of giving — the attitudes and behaviours of the public and the trends and challenges within the social sector.
In our Donor Insights, we have dug far deeper into what the public think and do, to reveal ground-breaking insights on the nature of generosity across 105 countries around the world (up from the 101 covered in 2025).
The 2025 Charity Insights focus in on 27 countries, where we uncover the challenges that social purpose organisations face and the overall state of the social sector. Our 2026 Charity Insights will be published in September and cover 35 partner countries.
Our two global reports bring these high-level insights together, alongside more detailed country-specific information. This is a result of CAF's partnership with over 30 leading social purpose organisations to understand as much as possible about generosity and civil society around the world. Please visit the Country deep-dives to see fully visualised data and insights from our partner countries.
Our intention is for this deeper level of analysis to help understanding and prompt conversations, from policymakers to personal networks.
By telling both sides of the story — that of donors and that of charities — we aim to provide insight that is valuable to governments, policymakers, charities themselves and all types of givers.

Throughout this work, we use the word “charity / charities”. By “charity”, we mean any organisation that works to try and improve issues that are affecting individuals, communities, society as a whole, animals or the natural environment.
They are recognised as part of civil society and operate on a not-for-profit basis. We know that terminology differs around the world, and you might know them better as Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs), community organisations, social purpose organisations, associations, or a range of other names.
The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) exists to accelerate progress in society towards a fair and sustainable future for all. Over the last 100 years, we have led the way in developing innovative approaches to giving. Annually, we distribute over £1 billion to social purpose organisations around the globe.
As a leading charity operating from the UK, US and Canada, alongside an international network of partners, CAF works at the centre of the giving world. We collaborate with corporate and individual donors to enable them to give more effectively, strategically and impactfully. This includes connecting them to charities globally and providing access to our in-depth sector knowledge, governance expertise and innovative giving solutions.
We help social purpose organisations to strengthen their resilience and do more of their life changing work, through impact consulting services from our Impact Accelerator, tools to support charities’ fundraising activities, and charity financial services from CAF Bank Limited and CAF Financial Solutions Limited. Using our research, policy and campaigns work, we understand and influence the wider environment for charities and donors.
Together, we give more.
We are privileged to lead a global collaboration of more than 30 social purpose organisations, united in the aim of increasing understanding around giving and charity through this project. These partners work with charities and donors in their respective countries — advocating and leading action for stronger civil societies around the world.

The survey on which the World Giving Report is based means that we have far more data than ever before. We recognise how valuable the data generated through our World Giving Report survey could be to social scientists within academia, so CAF is opening a call for project proposals. We accepted three proposals to use the 2025 data and, at the end of 2026, we will once again make the master SPSS file from the donor research available to our chosen project proposals. Please note that although CAF will provide the data for free, this will not include access to funding.
Please submit your proposals by the end of November 2026 in no more than 500 words to research@cafonline.org.
You should include:
Your name, position, academic institution and contact details.
Please note that a key part of any work will be an easily accessible output (whether this is a report, an infographic or something else), which CAF will work with you on. Our preference is for this to be released prior to any academic publication.
